Will carburetor cleaner damage car paint?
Nov 12, 2025
Carburetor cleaner can cause damage if it accidentally comes into contact with the car paint. If cleaner is accidentally sprayed onto the paint surface, it should be rinsed off immediately with water to prevent it from remaining for an extended period. This is because carburetor cleaner contains many organic solvents, which have extremely strong dissolving power and can damage the paint surface, leading to paint peeling or blistering. If only a small amount is sprayed and wiped off immediately, the damage may be limited; however, if left untreated for a long time, the paint damage will be more severe, requiring professional maintenance and repainting services at a 4S dealership.
Carburetor cleaner has multiple functions, including but not limited to:
1. Removing oil and other impurities from the electronic throttle body and its module parts.
2. Carbon removal function, effectively removing gum and carbon deposits from the electronic throttle body, intake system, and exhaust gas recirculation system.
3. Penetrating action, acting as a loosening agent to help release stuck parts.
4. Rust prevention function, providing protection for metal surfaces for a period of time to prevent rusting.
5. Environmentally friendly and energy-saving, it helps improve the starting and acceleration performance of automobiles, reduces vibration during idling, and lowers harmful emissions.
